8-Ball Rules
Thursday, 06 March 2008 16:05

The Table
Pocket billiard table (6 pockets). The Balls
15 target balls (numbers 1-7 solid, 8 solid ((black)), numbers 9-15 striped) and 1 cue ball (white).

Start of Game
The balls are placed in a triangle shaped rack. The 8 ball is placed in the middle of the third row, and the corners on the bottom are divided into one striped ball and on solid ball.

One of the players is chosen to make the break. The break is considered legal when 4 or more balls contact the rails as result of the break.

If the shooter who breaks fails to make a legal break then the opponent can either re-rack and break, or play from the current position.

Game's Objective
To pocket the 8 ball after all balls in player's group have been pocketed.

Group is assigned upon first pocket of a ball, (either striped or solid). Once assigned the player may only contact balls of their group first. After player has pocketed all balls in their group, they must proceed to attempt to pocket the 8 ball.

The Fouls
In 8-ball the player must pocket all the balls in his/her group before pocketing the 8-ball. If the player hits a ball that is not of his group he commits a foul.

Other fouls are when the cue ball is pocketed or does not hit any ball and when none of the target balls are pocketed or hit any cushion.

Winning the Game
The player that pockets the 8 ball when all group balls have been cleared wins the game.

Losing the Game
If player pockets 8-ball at any stage prior to clearing all balls from their assigned group first the result is immediate loss.
If player is at 8 ball pocketing stage (all group balls have been cleared) and commits a foul, the result is immediate loss
